Life has different plans, always! — Part 1

That was the summer of 2014. I had my lunch on a weekend and was watching TV in the hall. I spotted a small bubble on my left hand that looked more like a heat rash to me. Then came a hard blow from my grandma, who confirmed it as signs of chickenpox just by taking a quick glance at it.

I always thought chickenpox only affected children, but I was proven wrong that day. By the evening, the bubbles slowly spread all over my face and body. After that, I thought it’s no big deal and could easily recover from that in a day or two.
Out of curiosity, I asked my grandma how long it would take for the chickenpox to heal completely. She smiled casually and dropped a bomb saying — “It just came today! So, it will take at least 7–8 days more.”

I was shocked by the unexpected answer, and unconsciously tears gushed into my eyes. Immediately I ran into my room and cried for so long that I could feel a lump in my throat. You must be wondering what’s wrong with such a common disease. But only I knew the reason for my panic. Yes, only I knew it.

I had to catch a train to Pahalgam (A town in Jammu & Kashmir, India) in 4 days to start my mountaineering course at Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering. Now with chickenpox spreading all over my body, how could I go?

It had been my dream to do that course for the past year from when I was exposed to the sport rock climbing by an adventure group on meetup.
All my dreams seemed to have shattered into pieces. As I would be moving to the USA for my master’s in the next two months and the next available slot for the course being far away, my chances to get into mountaineering course seemed very brim.

What happened next? How did the incidents turn after this unexpected turn of events? I will be posting it soon in my next story! Until then, stay healthy, happy, and productive!
