Freelance writer ✍️ Health & Fitness enthusiast | Indian Classical Arts lover 👩‍💻Ex-techie

While everyone is busy choosing what mattress is more comfortable, I happily sleep on the hard floor, abandoning our cozy bed and my loving husband both at once. That’s my fun fact — I can’t sleep on soft beds.

I’m a freelance writer from the evergreen city, Seattle, USA. I’m happily married to a man who does everything he can to support my passion and loves me unconditionally! Sometimes I wonder what a happy marriage it has been :)

Until the mid-2020s, I was doing great by society’s norms, finished my masters, and had been working as an IT professional. Only after May 2020, I started to realize something was missing both personally & professionally.

That’s when I decided I would quit my job and enter the world of freelance writing. I joined Saheli Chatterjee ‘s Freelance 101 academy to learn how to market my writing skills and become a freelancer.

You can take my word for her course. She is fantastic in what she does. She has been there and gone through the struggles of becoming a successful freelancer. So, she created the course in such a way as to reduce a beginner’s journey into freelancing as smoothly as it can be.

Indian Classical Arts and their influence on me as a writer and a human being

August 2020 was when I resumed my practice with one of the beautiful Indian classical arts — Kuchipudi.

That’s also the time when I first began learning another Indian classical art — Hindustani music.

The level of spiritual solace I began to experience through these two art forms, my writer’s brain fails to put it in words.

I started learning Carnatic music with this exposure, which further enhanced my life’s value and purpose. I always had a feeling my voice was not suitable for singing all my life.

At the age of 30, I realized how I had limiting beliefs about my abilities. A few days back, my mother surprisingly questioned if it was really my voice in the clipping I recorded and sent her on WhatsApp. That’s the impact I realized with continuous practice. So literally, there is nothing that we can’t learn if we put our heart into it.

I’m currently working on my first book of short stories inspired by the real-life stories of strong women around me who overcame their limiting beliefs.

I believe that everyone has the potential to become what they aspire to in life. Some take the initiatives to experiment, and some prefer to wait for the magic to happen.

The sooner we try, fail, fall, get up, succeed, the better our lives would be.

Through Medium, I have already met some wonderful people and hoping to meet many more fabulous writers and creative people.

I write about writing, health & wellness, books, spirituality. If these topics interest you, watch out for my future content on @storiesbysushma :)

Until then, have a great rest of your day!
